The Southington football home opener wasn’t the only hotly contested battle the Blue Knights saw this week. Keep reading to check out all the results and events to come as the fall season advances.
Boys Soccer
Southington boys soccer opened their slate with a 1-0 home victory over Manchester on September 22nd. Junior goalie Jonathan Plourde made a crucial save with five minutes remaining to keep the score tied at zero. Soon after that, senior captain Cian Twohill headed in the game-winning goal on a corner kick from junior Matthew Villacis.
The Blue Knights then ended their week with a 3-1 away loss to Rocky Hill on September 25th. Southington is now 2-5-1 on the season.
Their next matchup comes on September 30th at home against Middletown. They’ll end the week with another home matchup against Platt on October 3rd.


Boys Cross Country
The Blue Knights continued their winning ways, defeating a trio of teams in their most recent dual meet on September 24th. Southington beat Berlin (23-36), Middletown (15-45) and New Britain (19-42) to remain undefeated at 7-0 on the season.
Sophomore Logan Perella led the team by taking the overall win at 18:05. Sophomore Sawyer Colasanto followed, finishing fifth (18:45) while junior Stephen Rahenkamp placed sixth (18:47). Senior Ethan Hoffman and junior Michael Blankenship had times identical to Rahenkamp’s, placing sixth and seventh respectively.
Southington then took part in the Ocean State Invitational on September 27th, placing 15 out of 16 teams in the 5K. Blankenship finished first on the Blue Knights and 53rd overall at 17:17. Hoffman and Perella followed, finishing 55th (17:18) and 82nd respectively (17:57). Junior Joey Tardiff (99th place, 18:20) and Rahenkamp (102nd place, 18:28) rounded out Southington’s top five.
The Blue Knights will continue their dual meet schedule against Platt and Newington at home on October 1st.


Boys Golf
The Blue Knights defeated Hall 155-166 at home on September 24th. In the win, senior Brady Staszewski joined a pair of Hall golfers to be named medalist with a 38.
Southington is now 6-3 on the year and will face Berlin and Rocky Hill in an away match on October 1st.
Field Hockey
Southington field hockey played just one game this week, falling to Northwest Catholic 3-0 at home on September 25th. The Blue Knights are now 2-5-1 on the season.
They’ll next take on Hall at home on September 30th before traveling to face Enfield on October 2nd.
Girls Cross Country

The Southington girls cross country team stayed undefeated when they took on Berlin, Middletown and New Britain on September 24th. The Blue Knights took down Berlin (16-46), Middletown (15-45) and New Britain (15-50) to remain a perfect 7-0.
Senior Katie Cavanaugh led the way, finishing first overall with a time of 22:24. Freshmen Maddie Canner-O’Mealy (22:49) and Emily Phipps (22:53) rounded out the top three finishing second and fourth respectively. Seniors Jenna Hebert (23:04) and Jacqueline Liebler (23:54) made up the rest of Southington’s top five.
On September 27th, the Blue Knights took part in the Ocean State Invitational, finishing fourth out of 28 teams in the 5K race. Cavanaugh led Southington, finishing 14th overall with a time of 20:51. Canner-O’Mealy followed with a 21:07 mark, finishing 21st while Hebert placed 40 with a time of 21:39. Phipps was right behind in 41st, just .5 seconds behind Hebert, while freshman Emily Blankenship rounded out the top five with a 22:59 mark.
Southington’s next dual meet will come against Platt and Newington at home on October 1st.
Girls Soccer
The Blue Knights had only one game this week, a home matchup with Rocky Hill on September 24th. But the clash was certainly a dramatic one, as senior Abbie Patavino scored the game-winner with 21 seconds remaining in a 1-0 victory. Southington is now 3-4 on the season.
They’ll next face Cromwell at home on September 29th before an away clash against Middletown on September 30th.
Girls Swimming
Southington girls swimming had a pair of meets against Bristol Co-op and Hall this week. They came away victorious in both, moving to a perfect 5-0 on the season.
The Blue Knights defeated Bristol Co-op 80-67 at home on September 22nd before taking down Hall 105-78 away on September 26th.
Southington will look to stay undefeated when they take on Farmington at home on October 1st.
Girls Volleyball
Southington opened their week with a 3-0 loss to Trumbull on September 22nd, 25-21, 25-22, 25-14. The Blue Knights bounced back in their September 25th clash against Rocky Hill. They won in straight sets, 25-10, 25-10, 25-14. Southington is now 3-6 on the season.
In the Trumbull loss, senior Camilla Garcia led the way with eight kills while juniors Lily Eidukaityte and Meredith Barry, alongside senior Alexandra Wagner each had six. Eidukaityte also had two aces while senior Laura Esguerra and Grace Zehnder each recorded one.
Senior Paige Raines made a team-high 19 digs while Zehnder and Eidukaityte had eight and seven respectively. Freshman Emme Steindl made 18 saves while Eguerra and Raines put up five and three. Senior Sehere Coma made a team-high two blocks.
For their second matchup against Rocky Hill, both Barry and Eidukaityte made 12 kills while Coma had five. The Blue Knights served 12 total aces, with Eidukaityte, Coma, Esguerra and junior Lauren Warych all recording two.
Eidukaityte had eight digs while Raines had seven. Steindl made a team-high 21 assists while Esguerra recorded seven.
Southington will next take on Middletown at home on September 29th. They’ll end the week with another home matchup against Platt on October 3rd.
