SHS Sports Round Up & Preview (Sept. 7, 2025)

Many of Southington High School’s athletic teams began their season on September 2nd. Here are the latest Blue Knights results, along with a look at the upcoming schedule.
Boys Golf
Southington boys golf squared off against Lewis Mills at the Southington Country Club on September 2nd. The Blue Knights came away with a 160-176 victory as junior Evan Moscibrodzki was named the medalist, shooting a match low of 38.
Senior Brady Staszewski was right behind with a 39 while junior Ryan LaRosa shot a 40. Senior Tyson Mahaffy recorded a 43 while junior Tyler Guerrette rounded out the top five.
The Blue Knights then took on Northwest Catholic on September 4th, earning a 160-172 win. Individual results were unavailable at the time of publishing. They’re set to play a pair of matches against Farmington and Avon on September 10th before facing Simsbury a day later.
Boys Cross Country
Southington boys cross country opened their year with a dual meet against Maloney and Plainville on September 2nd. The Blue Knights came away with a pair of victories, 15-50 over Maloney and 15-49 over Plainville.
Junior Joey Tardiff led the way with a time of 17:47. Fellow junior Thomas Kohl put up a 18:34 mark while sophomore Liam Thornton came in at 18:39. Juniors Stephen Rahenkamp and Michael Blankenship rounded out Southington’s top five with identical 18:43 times.
On September 9th, the team will travel to Elm Ridge Park to face Wethersfield and Rocky Hill in a dual meet.
Boys Soccer
Despite seven saves from junior goalkeeper Jonathan Plourde, Southington lost their opening match to Bristol Eastern on September 3rd, 5-0. The Blue Knights managed to bounce back just two days later though, earning a 3-0 victory over Bristol Central.
Sophomore Kevin Porzycki started the scoring off on a penalty kick. Then, fellow sophomore Ryan Andrews was able to find the back of the net twice, giving Southington their first win of the year.
The Blue Knights will take their 1-1 record into an away matchup against E.O. Smith on September 8th. Then, they’ll return home to face East Hartford on September 11th.
Field Hockey
Field hockey played a trio of games, ending the week with a 0-2-1 record. They opened their season with a 1-1 tie against E.O. Smith on September 2nd. The Blue Knights would then play one day later, falling 4-0 to Immaculate. Southington ended the week with a 3-1 loss to Sheehan on September 5th.
The Blue Knights will host a pair of home games against Newington on September 9th and South Windsor on September 10th.
Football
Southington will open their season away against Brien McMahon on Thursday, September 11th. Kick off is set for 6:00. The game will mark the first of two away matchups for the Blue Knights before they play their home opener against St. Joseph on September 26th.
Girls Soccer
The Blue Knights started their season strong, earning a 3-0 win over Maloney on September 2nd. Seniors Abbie Patavino and Madison Boucher, alongside junior Alannah Terry, all scored goals. Sophomore Audriana Moscibrodzki recorded two assists while senior Giana Mathews made an assist of her own. Freshman goalie Shayla Cassidy made three saves in the win.



Southington’s next matchup against Simsbury on September 5th ended in a 3-0 loss. The Blue Knights will look to bounce back when they host a pair of home games, starting on September 9th against Enfield. They’ll end the week by facing E.O. Smith on September 12th.
Girls Swimming
Southington girls swimming opened their season with a win against Manchester on September 5th. Final scores or individual results were not available at the time of publishing. The Blue Knights are set to travel to face Plainville on September 9th.
Girls Volleyball
Southington opened their season with a difficult challenge in Greenwich on September 4th. The Blue Knights fell in straight sets, 25-22, 25-23, 25-22. Junior Lily Eidukaityte recorded a team-high 12 kills and made two blocks.
Junior Meredith Barry had three blocks, recording four kills of her own. Senior Paige Raines made 13 digs while both senior Laura Esguerra (14) and freshman Emme Steindl (12) had double-digit assists. Four different Blue Knights recorded an ace.
A day later, Southington had the opportunity to get back on the right track against South Windsor. They did exactly that, earning a straight set victory, 25-11, 25-16, 26-18.
Eidukaityte led the team in kills again with nine while Barry followed right behind with eight. Raines put up another team-high 18 digs, as Esguerra (19) and Stiendl (10) continued their double-digit assists ways. Southington as a whole recorded nine total aces, with three of them coming from Esguerra.
The Blue Knights will next face a trio of matchups, starting with an away game against RHAM on September 8th. They’ll be on the road again for their September 10th game against Farmington, before returning home for a September 12th match against Bristol Eastern.
