About The Southington Outsider
The Southington Outsider is, in the words of our mission statement, “a non-partisan, nonprofit news and information source committed to building community and enhancing the lives of our residents, businesses, and organizations by providing trusted local information and covering topics of interest to the Southington community.” We started it to fill the need for a local newspaper that was created when the Observer shut down in 2020. It will have all the features that a traditional community newspaper would have - news, sports, features, letters to the editor, notices of upcoming events, obituaries - and we will take advantage of the digital format to do all these things in a colorful, dynamic, and interactive way. For the foreseeable future the Outsider will be strictly online – print editions are costly to produce and, sadly, the demand for them is steadily decreasing.
If you have a tip or story idea please write me at editor@southingtonoutsider.org. We welcome all of your suggestions, ideas, and criticisms – everyone makes mistakes, and we hope to learn from ours.
How You Can Help Out
This website is free for you, but not for us! It takes time, energy, and, of course, money to publish the news. Our current expenses come to over $2,000 per month. Our recommended donation to help us pay our staff and cover website costs is $8 per month or $75 per year. For obituaries, other tributes, or posters on our Local Calendar page the recommended donation is also $75. The donation page is here.
Please help us out so that we can keep bringing you Southington’s news and information!
