Barnes Museum Announces Fall Events

[Press Release] The Barnes Museum is looking ahead to a busy fall season with several upcoming programs in September and October, including a special appearance at Central Connecticut State University, a historic walking tour, a wine and beer tasting, and the return of the museum’s Victorian funeral traditions tour.
Barnes Museum Curator & Site Administrator Christina Volpe, M.A., will participate in the 25th Anniversary 9/11 Forum at Central Connecticut State University on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Torp Theatre in Davidson Hall, 1615 Stanley Street, New Britain. As part of “The Voices of Generations,” Volpe will share a personal reflection on remembering September 11 as a millennial and participate in a community conversation. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
The Downtown Southington Historic Walking Tour will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., beginning at the Barnes Museum, 85 North Main Street, Southington. Participants will explore North Main Street from Merrell Avenue to just beyond Berlin Avenue while discovering the stories behind historic buildings, monuments, and the people who shaped the community. Historic photographs, diary entries, letters, and stories from the Bradley and Barnes families will offer a unique look at Southington’s past. A suggested $10 donation may be made at the door. Registration is required.
Later that day, the Friends of the Barnes Museum will host a Wine & Beer Tasting from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. on the grounds of the Barnes Museum, 85 North Main Street, Southington. Guests can enjoy wines from Worldwide Wine and Spirits, craft beer from Kinsmen Brewery, light fare provided by Smokin’ with Chris, and live music. Tickets are $35 per person, and guests must be 21 or older. Proceeds support the preservation and programming of the Barnes Museum. Registration is required.
“The Final Farewell: Victorian Funeral Traditions” returns this fall, for select dates at the Barnes Museum, 85 North Main Street, Southington. This specialty tour explores 19th-century mourning customs and funeral traditions and includes a recreated Victorian viewing room. Admission is $10 for adults, and museum passes will not be accepted for this specialty tour. Registration is required.
